France 1939 in the village of Carriveau, Viane’s husband Antoine goes to fight for France. The Nazis invade so gradually, Viane keeps hoping they’re safe. It was gut wrenching to read, knowing what was going to transpire. A German captain is sent to live in their home so they are forced to comply or be killed.

Viane’s younger sister, Isabelle, feeling helpless, joins the resistance.

This book came recommended to me. I’ll admit, it’s not typically a book I would pick up on my own. But I was so glad I did! 5/5
