Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney 3/5

The narrator grows up in a home where she’s sure her parents don’t love her. She moves around a lot, her parents drink too much, fight too much, and generally don’t care. She makes a best friend in Taylor and falls in love with her family as well as their special friendship. She grows to covet Taylor’s life in its entirety. At present, the narrator is in a coma but can remember little things at a time and comes slowly out of unconsciousness.

The book jumps back and forth between past and present and normally this isn’t an issue for me but this book got a bit confusing around the middle. It’s difficult to read about the abuse she endures when she knows what’s going on but can’t wake up. The end was interesting so I’m glad I stuck with it but I’m giving it a 3/5.
