The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston 5/5

“The wind is just the breath of everyone who came before us… they’ll always be in the wind, singing.”

Florence Day is a ghostwriter of bestselling romance novelist Ann Nichols. She stops believing in happily ever after after a bad break-up. Therefore she has trouble finishing her book. Her new editor, Benji, is harping on her to finish it by the deadline so she’s ready to give it all up. When unexpected news forces her to return to her hometown, she’s confronted with ghosts of her past, old and new. Oh did I mention she sees ghosts? Her dad too. In fact, she helped solve a boys murder when she was 13 by listening to the ghost of the dead boy.

Going off the title, I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into with this book. It was dark, sad, hopeful and something about it made me really really love it. Maybe the eccentricity of her family who runs a funeral home in South Carolina, and maybe the Addams family/Casper-esque quality of the whole thing.

If I could rate it higher than a 5, I would.
