Robyn Caldwell is always taking care of everyone else. She looks after her ex husband Cord and her kids Harlow and Austin. She even cares for her friend/boss, Mindy. When the opportunity arises for her to have a “Summer Getaway,” she promptly seizes it. She effectively runs away. She travels from Florida to Santa Barbara, California. There, she stays with her beloved aging great aunt Lillian in her huge home. Although the house has plenty of room for guests, Robyn wasn’t prepared when Mason Bishop comes to stay. He is going to inherit the house when Lillian died since he’s a relative of her deceased husband Leo. Everyone follows Robyn to California after that.
I liked the scenes where they’re cooking or planning meals – I found it soothing to read. I like my protagonist to have some flaws. I can’t see any that Robyn has, so that was kind of annoying. And there’s one mushy relationship in the book that was a little over the top for me. 4.5/5
