The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda 4/5

Several teenagers make a pact to reunite every year after a tragedy leaves them tethered to each other for life. When the survivors continue dying one at a time years later, it almost feels Final Destination-esque.

The book jumps back and forth between the present and the past. It shows what happened during their accident. It also presents each survivor’s perspective.

In the past, on a school trip, 10 students and 2 teachers died after their vehicles went into the water. The remaining students have to live with survivors guilt the rest of their lives. It alludes to the fact that there’s more at play than a simple accident.

I enjoyed the book but didn’t feel a connection to any of the characters. 4/5
