The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall 4/5

Sadie Revelare won’t call herself a witch, but let’s face it, she’s a witch. She and her beloved grandmother, Gigi Marie, own a [magical] bakery that can cure many of the townspeople’s ailments.

Sadie is only allowed 4 heartbreaks in her life before her magic is gone. Her first love, Jake, leaves her so that’s #1. Her twin brother Seth takes off (#2). When she finds out Gigi is dying of terminal cancer, she knows that’ll be #3. It will be a big one. Gigi tells her that once she dies, the Revelare magic will be unbalanced. There will need to be a sacrifice. It will have to be her or Seth. Luckily Seth comes back to see Gigi Marie and they are forced to figure it all out together.

I loved the idyllic town of Poppy Meadows and how they rely on Gigi and Sadie’s magical concoctions. I loved the character of Sadie. She wants to take care of everyone. I loved Gigi even more. I was into the witchy folklore talk and the superstitions.
