Liz Danger returns to her hometown of Burney, Ohio, after 15 years away, when her Aunt ML sends her a letter saying her mom needs her help. Right when she returns to town, she gets pulled over by hot cop Vince Cooper. Apparently it’s just because her lug nuts were missing or something, I’m not even sure. But thank god because she engages in a relationship with Vince even though she keeps saying it’ll be a one night stand, ok yeah right. Liz’s ex boyfriend and probably one of the worst characters, Cash Porter, is getting married in mere days (how coincidental!) and he’s marrying into big Blue money. Yes, the richest family in town are The Blues. Don’t even get me started on their names. I’m embarrassed even typing this – Navy, Lavender, Skye, Periwinkle. C’mon! There’s also a woman named Anemone which I thought was only meant to be a home for Nemo and Marlin.
There’s a lot going on in this book, I mean A LOT. Not only does Liz think she’s a disgrace to the town (newsflash: she isn’t but everyone else is), someone is murdered, someone’s death could be accident or suicide, Vince’s old army buddy dies, Liz is ghost writing an autobiography, Liz’s mom has a stuffed bear obsession. Not to mention families feuding and a case of hidden paternity. Phew. Oh and did you know they’re in Burney Ohio? Because it was mentioned upwards of 1,000 times.
This was the first in the Liz Danger series and I’m sorry to say I won’t be reading the rest. It was awful book and I almost didn’t finish but I will say it picked up *slightly* about halfway through. 1/5
