Pippa Park: Crush at First Sight by Erin Yun 4/5

You may need to read the first book for some context:

This is the sequel to Pippa Park Raises her Game, where we see Pippa get a scholarship to Lakeview Private School.

In Crush At First Sight, Pippa is still trying to find her place at Lakeview and is seemingly desperate to become one of the “cool kids” AKA The Royals. Towards the beginning of the book, she’s thrown into planning a holiday party for The Royals and their friends. It has to be perfect and she struggles every single chapter with the stress of planning this party when there are many obstacles. Her sister/guardian Mina doesn’t even want to host the party, neighbor Mrs. Lee takes up residence in Pippa’s already cramped apartment, and Pippa has to decide which boy she will invite as her date (ah middle school!). Also, how is she going to pay for this lavish party on her measly babysitting salary?

Coco rates it 4.5/5 saying the chapters were super long, same as the first book. I say 3/5 – it was easy to read and interesting to learn about some Korean culture, especially the food. I didn’t like that Pippa was still trying to earn The Royals approval. Girl, just do your thing. And the chapters were all basically the same. We will call it 4/5
