Around Christmastime we meet the the Garland family in Atlanta. The “kids” are Daniel, Josie, and Meredith. Just before Christmas, golden boy med student Daniel is killed in a car accident at age 25.

His sisters Josie and Meredith have always been polar opposites and after the death of beloved Daniel, they drift farther apart. We fast forward to the 15th anniversary of Daniel’s tragic accident and seeing chapters alternate between the sister’s POV.

Meredith married Daniel’s best friend Nolan and they have a daughter named Harper. She’s now an OCD lawyer who is unhappy with her life. Josie is a dreamer and a 1st grade teacher. She’s ready for a baby and thinks Meredith has it all.

Josie believes it was her fault Daniel died because he was coming to pick her up from the bar that fateful night so she’s been carrying that for years. This book felt very long but was good and it was nice to see some resolution in the end, on what would’ve been Daniel’s 40th birthday. 3/5
