My very first Stephen King novel.

Jake Epping in an English teacher in Lisbon Maine. To make extra money, he teaches a GED class at night. Harry Dunning, one of his students and a disabled janitor at the school, writes an essay. The essay almost brings Jake to tears. The essay was about Harry’s childhood and how his alcoholic father killed his whole family and wounded Harry for life.

Jake’s friend and diner owner, Al Templeton, tells Jake that he’s dying of lung cancer. Al shows Jake a time slip in his diner that brings you from the present year of 2011 to 1958. Al wants Jake to go back. He believes Jake can stop the assassination of John F Kennedy. Al thinks this action will change history for the better.

Reluctantly but without much going on in 2011, Jake time travels to 1958 under the alias “George Amberson.” He wants to make a less radical change before trying to save JFK. He tries to save Harry Dunning’s family by killing Harry’s father. He quickly learns about the Butterfly Effect. He realizes that changing something in the past will drastically change the future. The changes are not always for the better.

This was not my choice of books to read. My husband recommended it and it was long. It felt like a lot of book and not enough excitement for me. 2/5
