Mallory Quinn is a recovering addict 18 months sober. She accepts a job as a nanny for a little boy named Teddy. Teddy’s dad, Ted, has a hard time with her past where Dr. Caroline Maxwell, Teddy’s mom, seems to have a soft spot for Mallory.
Very quickly, Mallory finds out that Teddy has an imaginary friend named Anya. Totally fine right? Wrong!! He draws wicked creepy pictures of her (borderline Samara from the Ring type stuff). Ted and Caroline have a very strict policy about religion and spirituality, choosing to believe only in science. Because of this, they shut down Teddy (and Mallory) at every turn when Anya is mentioned. Teddy continually says that he knows Anya is fake, like he’s repeating what he’s been told.
Mallory finds out that a woman named Anne disappeared years ago from the Maxwell property. She starts to think Anne may be Anya. With the help of a sweet landscaper named Adrian, she tries to uncover the truth about who Anya is. I’ll tell you she’s definitely not Teddy’s imaginary friend.
I enjoyed this book but the pictures Teddy draws are a little scary. 4.5/5
