The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate (for kids) 5/5

This review is from my daughter who read this book in school!

Silverback gorilla Ivan is stuck in captivity at the Big Top Mall. He has been in the mall for 27 years, bored and alone. He has a friend named Stella who is an elephant, who has also been in captivity. Julia is a 10 year old girl who fills Ivan with hope when she visits the animals. Bob is a small dog who sneaks into the enclosure after becoming friends with the caged animals. Baby elephant Ruby joins in the middle of the book and she’s forced to work in the circus also.

Coco loved the book and she said she could relate to it because Ivan has a lot of worries. Coco has the tendency to worry a little. And it shows that animals are the same as humans. Animals should be treated the same because you never know what they’re going through. Coco rates it 5/5 but if your kids have phobias of blood or violence for animals, maybe a 3/5.
