This is the sequel to The Kind Worth Killing so I’d highly recommend reading that one first!
If you remember in the first one, Henry Kimball was let go from the Boston PD. This was for “stalking” his witness, Lily Kintner.
Kimball is now a private investigator who meets with a woman named Joan Whalen. She wants him to find proof that her husband Richard is cheating on her. Well, he does. But he also walks in on Richard and his lover shot dead. When he realizes there’s more at play here than just a cheating spouse, he enlists Lily to help him. Why he’s still obsessed with her after she tried to kill him in the first book, I’m really not sure. But he calls on the right gal. And what a character Lily is!
So “Mr. Kimball” and Joan have a backstory of their own. Coincidentally he was her teacher in high school. He taught for only one year before becoming a police officer.
I enjoyed this sequel just as much as the first book. The characters of Kimball and Lily are great. 5/5
