The Drowning Woman book by Robyn Harding

Lee Gulliver is down on her luck and homeless for the time being. She lost her restaurant and life savings when Covid hit and hasn’t been able to recover quite yet. She finds a nice neighborhood to park her car and sleep somewhat safely. When she wakes up to a *drowning woman* in the ocean, she saves her life. Lee didn’t know the woman was attempting suicide. The woman, Hazel, says her husband is extremely controlling and abusive. They develop a friendship and Hazel brings Lee food and water.

Lee meets a man named Jesse – first at the mechanic and then at the diner she works at. They start dating. Hazel asks Lee to pose as her for a few hours since they sort of look alike. She wants to escape but her husband basically has a camera on her at all times. Hazel is willing to help Lee get back on her feet in return. But when Lee does what Hazel asks, she finds a dead body in Hazel’s house. Was Hazel setting her up or was this just a terrible coincidence?

I really liked this book, the characters and all their internal secrets and dilemmas. I super loved the ending.
