Brian's Winter book by Gary Paulsen - Hatchet book #3

I would definitely make sure to read Hatchet first otherwise there will be spoilers in this review.

In the first book, Brian was stranded in the wilderness during summer. In Brian’s Winter, it’s the story of what would’ve happened if he hadn’t been rescued when he did. If he had to survive through a difficult winter.

I wish there was a book made about what his parents were going through during this time. This was my least favorite of all the books. It was very graphic, talking about skinning and gutting animals, sewing their hides, and making stew. Brian said the word “stew” so often it became a big joke for us. Personally, I hated it because it was too gross.

My rating: 1/5

1/5 coffee cups

Coco liked the beginning where they recap and the end with the trees exploding. But she didn’t like the middle like me because it was so graphic. She said the middle was just hunting and making stew which makes sense. He did what he had to do to survive.

Coco’s rating: 3/5

3/5 coffee cups
