Michelle Sanderson is an army vet who returns home with a hip injury. Her mother has passed away. She’s come home after 10 years to take over her family’s Blackberry Island Inn in Washington. In her 10 year absence, her best friend turned foe, Carly Williams, has been running the inn. Carly had been working with Michelle’s mom. Michelle is not happy with all the changes and the money they’ve sunk into the inn. She’s also not happy about having to work her with frenemy.

Michelle and Carly have quite a history together and everyone on the island seems to know about it. They’re forced to work together to keep the inn from foreclosure. All while Carly is taking care of her 9 year old daughter Gabby. And while Michelle is struggling with PTSD and recovering from her injury.

I really enjoyed this book and the complex relationship between Michelle and Carly. I don’t understand why it’s titled Barefoot Season when I don’t think it alluded to anyone being barefoot once. I look forward to reading the other Blackberry Island books.
