The book starts off with an interview of asshole celebrity chef Cam Lasky. Cam is Atlanta’s “Steak King.” He’s being interviewed about a home invasion.

His wife Jade was home with kids Beatrix and Baxter. Beatrix is a musical genius practicing the violin. A masked gunman gets a hold of them when they get home and gets inside the house. He makes her call Cam and tell him he wants a very specific amount of money – upwards of $734,000. Cam scrambles to make the gunman’s deadline.

During Cam’s POV, we see that his restaurants are struggling and his most recent restaurant burned down.

So who is the gunman and why is he requesting such a specific amount?

Cam obviously seems like an ass from his interview. Cam calls the kids the B’s because of their names and I kind of hate it.
