12 year olds Kat Steiner and Blake O’Neill meet at summer camp and become best friends. When Kat gets news that her grandfather passed away, her dad comes to take her home. While Blake is seeing her off, she recognizes Kat’s father as her own estranged father. The girls don’t have time to talk and their dad speeds off. They don’t speak again.
This is where I’m confused. You’d think this would be amazing news – to find out your best friend is actually your half sister. But no. Kat thinks Blake schemed to become friends to get closer to their dad. Blake sent letters to Kat for years but Blake never wrote back.
15 years later, their father dies of a heart attack. I would too if I was trying to juggle two families. In his will, he left the Steiner family’s summer cottage to both Kat and Blake. The will also reveals that the once wealthy Steiner family is basically bankrupt. Kat and Blake haven’t seen each other since that fateful day at camp. They are forced to put aside their differences and work together. They need to fix up the summer house because it’s in bad shape. They plan to sell it for a profit since they both need the money.
I hate Kat, she’s a spoiled brat. If it weren’t for her assuming the worst about Blake, they could’ve figured this out so much sooner. And been the sisters they wanted to be. But all in all, it was very cute in the end.
