Those Empty Eyes by Charlie Donlea

A family is murdered in their beds and only one family member survives. Teenager Alexandra Quinlan is found holding the murder weapon so everyone assumes she killed her whole family. That night, a female cop calls Garrett Lancaster to come to represent Alex. AKA protect her from accidentally incriminating herself more. Her nickname “Empty Eyes” is drafted by some idiot reporter who doesn’t realize she’s just in shock.

Fast forward and she’s won a huge sum of money from a defamation lawsuit against the state. Her whole life since the murders has been spent averting the public eye. She’s hellbent on finding the real killer and why they seemingly targeted her family.

Alternating chapters are told from the POV of a camper. She’s been molested by a camp counselor and she’s not the only one. This all ties into Alex’s story later.

There was a lot of characters. Just when I thought I had them all straight, we are introduced to yet another character. It was pretty predictable but still very good.
