The Haters book by Robyn Harding

Camryn Lane is a school counselor for an inner city high school. She also is a first time published author. Her life’s work, Burnt Orchid, has just been published. Burnt Orchid is about a girl with a troubled upbringing who uses other wayward girls to steal, scam, and kill. Camryn starts receiving anonymous messages saying she shouldn’t be allowed to counsel kids. She’s accused of using the kids life stories as fodder for her book. Obviously Camryn would never do that plus she says none of the kids have problems as big as Orchids.

Camryn is dismayed when she receives a nasty 1 star review. Word gets around and trolls start spamming her with 1 star reviews. People start to worry that what this troll is saying is true. Not only does it put Camryn’s dream writing career in trouble, it also hurts her day job. It damages her relationship with her boyfriend Theo. It affects her co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband. Worst of all, it jeopardizes her relationship with her daughter Liza. Camryn looks crazy trying to prove she’s innocent.

While I know trolls are real and run rampant, this story felt very very aggressive. It also felt very repetitive. I almost feel bad reviewing it so awful being that the book was about a bad review! I liked the book within a book, Burnt Orchid, better than the actual book. I guess I’m one of “The Haters” as well.
