Ah, finally, the 5th and last book in the Hatchet Adventure series. I can’t wait to move onto something else.
Brian is now 16 and feels more at home in the woods or “in the bush,” as he says 100 times. Even when people are being maimed and killed by a bear, he wants to stay in “the bush.”
I learned more than I ever wanted to know about killing, skinning, and gutting animals. Thank god it wasn’t a picture book. It was graphic, gory, and repetitive. I had to skip over full paragraphs while reading to my 7 and 10 year old. For me, this was by far the worst book in the series. Paulsen really should’ve stopped after the first book.
It ends with him standing over a bear with a knife saying he’s got a lot of work to do. Now I’ve got a lot of work to do to get this book out of my head.
If the book wasn’t bad enough, the afterword was even worse. The author tells us we are basically all prey. That was enough to keep me and my kids up at night.
Since I don’t have an image for 0/5 I’ll do 1/5
