A mother’s worst nightmare.
Marissa Irvine shows up to 14 Tudor Grove to pick up her 4 year old son Milo. He’s on a play date with a new school friend. When she gets there, Milo isn’t there. Neither is the friend Jacob, Jacob’s mom Jenny or the nanny Carrie. It’s an older woman named Esther who thank god is probably the kindest woman on the planet. Esther helps Marissa make some calls and drives her home.
Basically, Milo was picked up from school by another child’s nanny. He was picked up by Carrie Finch, Jacob Kennedy’s nanny. This school really needs to get their shit together and check IDs or something. Police keep coming back to ask questions but it doesn’t seem like there’s really any updates. Until there are. Lots of updates. Nothing is really as it seems and no one is off the hook. It was a little confusing for me in the end. I really had to sit and focus and re-read some parts.
I wanted to read this book before I watched the show on Peacock. Putting the faces to the characters has been fun. Marissa is definitely not who I thought she’d be – Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning should’ve switched characters. With Dakota playing Marissa and Sarah playing Jenny. Peter is exactly how I pictured. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
