Kenna Rowan and boyfriend Scotty Landry get in a car accident and Scotty is killed. Since Kenna was driving, she goes to jail, where she realizes she’s pregnant. She gives birth there and is forced to let Scotty’s parents, who now hate her, take custody of baby Diem.

Kenna is released from jail 4 years later and all she wants is to have a relationship with her daughter. Ledger is Scotty’s best friend who helps out with Diem every chance he can.

Scotty’s parents still hate Kenna and blame her for their son’s death. They don’t want anything to do with her and same for Diem. Ledger starts to have feelings for Kenna, unbeknownst to the Landry’s. He wants to help Kenna but doesn’t want to jeopardize his ability to see her daughter.

Great book and I can’t wait to see the movie!
