“The more good you look for, the more you find.”
Sadie Montgomery’s life is not going so great. But she will never tell you that or ever let you help her, even if she desperately needs it. She beat out 1,990 other contestants in a portrait contest. She finally feels like this will be her big break.
She has a seizure in the street and thank god someone moves her out of the way before she gets hit by a car. When she wakes up and after lots of testing, she’s told she has a cavernoma in her brain that’s leaking fluid and will make her have seizures. She’s told she should book brain surgery sooner rather than later. She wants to put it off at least until after she enters her portrait.
Her absentee dad shows up just to tell her he booked her for surgery that week. Apparently her mother died from the exact same thing because she didn’t schedule the surgery either. She was the same age as Sadie is now. I’m not sure how Sadie didn’t know all the details of her moms death until now.
She has the surgery and when she wakes up, faces don’t make sense. She can’t recognize anyone. The doctor tells her she has prosopagnosia as a setback from the surgery. It’s caused from swelling so hopefully once the swelling goes down the prosopagnosia will go away. And she will be able to recognize faces again. But there is a small chance this could be permanent.
Sadie has to navigate her life with faces not making sense and just hoping she will get better as quick as possible.
I have to say, everyone in Sadie’s life kind of sucks. Her father didn’t disclose the real reason her mother died, knowing full well Sadie could have the same condition. Her stepmother Lucinda seems like a witch, always sticking up for her daughter. Which brings me to Parker, Sadie’s evil bully stepsister. Even Sadie’s so-called best friend ditches her when she needs her most (to help her finish her portrait).
I like this author but this book wasn’t my favorite of hers. It kept going off on tangents. Not to mention it was extremely unrealistic.
