Raine Hale (ok, fake name) is a public defender who is the heir to the Hale House and estate. And let me tell you, apparently in their town of Crozet Virginia, the Hale name is very serious. Everyone wants a piece of the Hale fortune. I guess it’s worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Raine gets a call that estranged cousin Maria had a heart attack and is in the hospital. When I say estranged what I really mean is cousin Maria is suing Raine to get a piece of the Hale estate. Maria’s 5 year old daughter Molly is the heir after Raine and Raine is still to be Molly’s guardian if anything happens to Maria and husband Gabe. I guess they were close before all the suing. I’m pretty sure Raine is already letting Maria, Gabe, and Gabe’s mother live on the property for free.

Maria is a super fit 34 year old so a heart attack is odd. They find cyanide in her system so she was poisoned. Shitty husband Gabe is found dead with cyanide in his system as well. AND Amy Stocker, who used to care for Raine’s mom, is found dead. And you guessed it, she had cyanide in her system as well. Oh, and Gabe was having an affair with Amy. Yeah, I told you he was shitty.

Not a huge spoiler here but Maria dies. Now Raine is taking custody of Molly, fighting with Molly’s grandmother, Gabe’s mom. She’s also working with old flame (of course he is), Agent Judson Blackwood, to figure out how everything is connected. And her soon to be ex husband Ken is lurking around, trying to get a piece of the Hale pie.

I rolled my eyes so many times because of how often they mentioned “Hale House” and the goddamn Hale name. Who actually gives a shit in this town about an old run down house that needs a ton of repairs? Probably no-one. I don’t understand why they kept bringing up the fact that Raine and Amy looked so much alike. I thought at the end there would be something to that, but nope. Just a good old copycat. Judson was meant to be brooding and serious but just came off as a huge asshole with no sentimentality. Basically everyone was an asshole – Judson, Gabe, Amy, Ken, Raine’s stalker Pete Miller. Oh, did I mention someone’s out to kill her? Yeah that too. And poor little Molly is just caught in this whole twisty Dynasty situation.

The ending was kind of satisfying but still sort of predictable. Trust me when I say don’t waste your time.
