Sasha, Andi and Regan are friends and neighbors in Cloverhill Lakes, Connecticut. Regan’s husband Jack died months ago and she has daughter Hallie. Sasha has 16 year old son Drew, new husband Tom and daughter Chloe. Andi is newly married to Carson and has 2 kids, Roxie and Dez.
At their annual Labor Day cookout, a car explodes and I’m talking gruesome stuff. Body parts, brain matter everywhere. It’s Regan’s car, that had Ally Whitlock in it, about to borrow it to get more party stuff. So the explosion was meant for Regan.
Sasha is worried about teenage son Drew. There’s a bomb threat at the kids school and Sasha finds the crafts used to make the fake cartoony bomb in son Drew’s room. Sasha still visits her alcoholic ex husband to try to take care of him. He spent time in prison after being set up to smuggle drugs from Mexico. He hasn’t been the same since.
Andi’s husband Carson wants her to learn to use their home gun for safety. When he comes inside for a phone call, Andi continues practicing shooting cans. While picking them up she finds her ex husbands new wife Tia Hainsley. Dead. With a shotgun wound. Did she accidentally kill her? One would obviously call 911 but everyone knows Andi absolutely loathed Tia so it doesn’t look good. I would like to think I would still call the cops *shrug*.
At a school event, Regan is sure she sees dead husband Jack. She falls down the rabbit hole trying to figure out who this guy is. When one of the women goes missing, the others figure out everything is connected.
It shocked me how Andi could make bad decision after bad decision. If she was just honest when she first found Tia’s body, it would’ve been much better for everyone. All in all, a super fast, riveting, twisty book that I enjoyed.
